Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!!!

I wish you all a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.
The years are spinning away and they don't show signs of slowing.
I'm not sure what 2014 holds, but I hope it's a good one.
Love, Heidi

The Holiday Marathon is a race I'm never prepared for.

It's all a Christmas blur right now, throw a few birthdays and a High School State Championship Football game in the mix and it becomes a celebrating marathon.  Start buying gifts in July, pull out decorations in November, from Dec. 1 - 19th decorate the inside and outside of the house.  Finish buying gifts, wrap them all, hot glue 15 gingerbread houses together out of gram crackers.  Get work done, sick kid with flu, weather fluctuating from 80 to 30 degrees with rain and wind and cedar pollen.  What the heck am I going to wear?  Why didn't I get my hair colored last month?
Is that a dead mouse I smell?  Did my cat just eat a poinsettia?
What a crazy, stressful & wonderful time of the year.
Maybe I can get one more post in before Christmas.  If not, Happy Holidays!  Love, Heidi

Cat Organizing in the Office.

This was the solution for having cats lying on paperwork and keyboards on my desk.
Boxes would work great too.  My son decided to label the cat organizer baskets.
Enjoy, Heidi

Sometimes you have more cats than baskets and maybe you need to get a bigger desk for more baskets.
This is my big boy, Romeo, he's my lover boy.
All he wants to do is be next to me and lick me and my customers.

This is Romeo as a teenage kitten.  Now he's all grown up and weighs over 15lbs.

Virtual Home Make-Over

It's been a few years since I've done a Virtual Home Make-Over.
I had to wait for just the right house to come along and one finally has.
There also has to be a really great inspirational After to really make the magic happen.
Enjoy, Heidi

Striped chair, gold mirror, dark walls

If you have high ceilings a fantastic fireplace, big fat crown molding, why not go black?  All black with a great big beautiful chandelier.

This is another example

Black walls, big art, citron accents

One more example.
Or maybe all white with black ceilings and an enormous chandelier?

I would totally pull off one off these looks (the top image), if I had this house pictured below.
Hint Hint.

If I had a long and narrow hallway that had tall ceilings, chunky molding and lots of doors, I would do something like this.  White on top and black on bottom.  The ceilings are tall enough that they can handle being visually cut off. Again, hang a gorgeous chandelier and call it done.

Maybe you would rather go all white and have the black accent color on the ceiling and the door?  Maybe there needs to be a repeat of a fabulous light fixture instead of one chandelier?

I'm not a big fan of lots of furniture in the entry hall, maybe a long mirror near the door with a console so you can check yourself before you step out.

stone wall is nice

Then we come to a part of the house that has an odd rock wall.
What do we do?
Place the best of the best stuff in front of it and make the whole dang thing a master piece.
Large mirrors, tall matching lamps, orchids (fake), shiny pretty things you love.
I like to call these areas, "Shrines".

I might have to do some sort of wood trim over the orange brick.

Lastly, we have the pool in the back yard.
This is my most favorite of all the pool pics I've come across.
There is an enchanting stone wall surrounding the pool with lots of vines, ferns, trees and flowers growing as if they have been doing so for many years.  Not a lot of concrete, this is what makes the pool feel so inviting.  The grass and plants have a softening effect.  The furniture is very classic and not dated.

The picture is not all that different from the virtual after.
I hope you enjoyed my Virtual Home Make-Over on a house that I would LOVE to get my hands on.
I could live here for many years, it might take many years to pull these looks off?

We're all just walking each other home.

This week, I took some photos for a friend of a beautiful Texas property she is trying to sell.
The sun was on its way down for the day and the air is no longer as humid as it has been all Summer.
There is crispness in the air, even the light is different without all of that dang humidity.
Then I came across this amazing quote from Ram Dass, I just knew that the two had to go together.
We are just walking each other home.
How beautiful.
Enjoy your weekend, Heidi

Where's your favorite Beachy Spot?

I'm feeling the ocean pulling me to it.
If the weather stays pretty, I think I will run away one weekend real soon.
We like to go to Port Aransas in Texas.  From our home, it is about a 3 hour drive.
We walk the beach, finding shell, starfish and sand dollars, eat at our favorite restaurants
 and visit the local shops.
Where do you like to go?  What are your favorite things to do when you get there?
I would love to go crabbing and searching for scallops (LOVE scallops).
Have a camp fire and make s'mores.   Maybe this great little video about the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia has got me yearning for a beachy adventure?
Click HERE for a Holiday Rental on the Yorke Peninsula.
This has definitely been added to my Bucket List.
Enjoy your weekend.  Heidi

Meet Bella

Last week we found this precious baby abandoned after a heavy rain shower.
She was never scared, never puffed up, bit or fissed.
Purring and licking is the only thing she knows to do.
We brought her home and here she sits in her favorite spot, my store window.
She can watch the world go by and be safe and secure with plenty of food and cuddles.
We have named her Bella
and I can honestly say that I have never known a cat with such a sweet disposition.
I truly believe she either is so appreciative that we saved her or perhaps she is an old soul in a cat body.  Maybe both.  Enjoy, Heidi

Making Love in the Kitchen, I mean Lunch. Part 11

I have major guilt issues with my blog right now.  For all of you great people out there who visit this poor abandoned blog on a daily basis, I'm so sorry.  When I do post something, it's a load of self help quotes and maybe you're like, "words again, I'd love something pretty to look at".
SO....to make it all better I give you, "Making Love in the Kitchen, I mean Lunch. Part 11.
I made it extra special just for you.
Enjoy, Heidi

I love how the cabinetry looks like real furniture and there is a window full of light at the sink.

Very timeless, I have a hard time trying to see how this will become a dated look in the future when it looks like it could be 100 or more years old already.

Not only does adding the curtain under the counter only makes this kitchen have that old world style, but it is a super great way to save some $$ and you can change it on a whim.
Image via Better Homes and Gardens
Another example of how a curtain gives an old world look, the brick floor helping out as well.
I love the food in the glass canisters,  there is nothing more distracting than commercialized labels out in the open.

This one is my favorite curtain example, the marble sink and window are a plus.

LOVE this kitchen so much.  The high ceilings and antique unpainted wood furniture, plus happy sun beams shining into the room filling it with light.

Big windows again at the sink and lots of wood and stone, very nice touch of black or dark gray seems to ground the room

Holy moly, I love this kitchen so much.  The bleached wood shutters doors has done me in.
I love the crisp white and the pale bluish grey cabinetry and doors.  It has the perfect balance of new and clean paired with old world charm.  Thank you Carol, I can now die a happy woman.

I love this small kitchen, it reminds me of another, I once loved.   Oh yeah, this one.

Lots of clean light flooding through the windows here, but I wonder if I would still love this kitchen as much if that huge wonderful basket was gone?

Unable to find source of image, please let me know if you know.
I love it all, unless those are Formica counter tops.  Lets just say that they are marble or some sort of rock.  The baskets are a nice touch to break up the same ole same old drawers, plus adds some charm.
I love the metal open shelving, design of the wood floors and use of black.  Lets not forget about the huge window in front of the sink.  Looks like we are finding a pattern.

Feminine and masculine balanced with a touch of Goth.
The pictures on the range hood bother me.  I would also make the island a raw wood with a dark honey and aged patina.

Three words for a great look, Wood Range Hoods.

Oak range hoods, loving the look and the little detail at the toe kick.  I did this in my kitchen and the only thing I hate is that stuff gets in that little nook and you can't just sweep it out.  It's not bad enough to get rid of the detail.
Love this country kitchen. The door is fabulous! My favorite kitchen so far and I think its because of all the doors outside... dutch door! Beams are great.

Wow! This one is home in the country (bush).  I'll take it.

My Boho Chic is showing, I need to tuck that back in.  Pretty saucy don't you think?

Great styling of kitchen shelving
Image via House Beautiful
Here we have all sorts of white with collections.  What really makes it work is the baskets and open shelving, it makes the space feel very accessible.  Flooded with light is key too, but if you have a dark kitchen, just remember that there is probable a guy outside of this window with a light plant, shining it in just for this shot.

Funny, it seems like I've seen this room before....
Oh yeah.  I did a post about it here.

Enlighten Me.

Totally in love with these inspiring quotes from Rumi.
Enjoy, Heidi

Set your life on FIRE. Seek those who fan the flames. Rumi

It's kinda  ironic that I named our latest cat Remmy with out any thought, it just came out and I decided that would be her name.  Strange, yet pretty cool.
