Bold Black and Beautiful

Isn't if funny that when you are contemplating something that you see it everywhere?  I have this fabulous butler's pantry that is painted white and I have been thinking of painting it black with the idea that it will knock the socks off of anyone who sees it.  Right now it kinda blends in with the background.  Any who, ever since I came up with the idea, I see black bookcases, armours, cupboards and you name it everywhere.  Here is a small sample of what I'm talking about.  Enjoy, Heidi

Will be painting a client's deck rail black. It's now white against his charming gray home. Can't wait.

It's a tight lot. The white jumps forward, black recedes. His home will look calmer, larger & further from the street.

Odd, but true.

Beautiful! I love black bookcases and china cabinets. My son has one with militaria in it but I can't talk him out of it. One of these days I'll have to paint my own.

I know exactly what you mean! Whenever I can't get an idea out of my head, I see it popping up all over the place! Go for it, the black will look great I am sure :)

Love this post. We have an old round dining table that belonged to my husband's grandparents. It is not great by any means - some kind of veneer, not a fine antique - so I have been thinking of painting it black. I think it will make it such a better looking table! I know what you mean about seeing images after you make a decision....kind of like we must have been absorbing ideas subconsciously all along as we study design, and then those come forward when we come up with new concepts? Does that make sense?

I think you won't be sorry. I painted our big built-ins that are in our living room the first few weeks we moved into this house almost 4 years ago. I've never regretted it. Really makes a statement like you spoke about. If you make the leap you must post pics! Best of luck to you Heidi.

White is "in" right now, especially for the summer season. Most of us bloggers have been reading so much about white recently, I forgot about painting things black. Although... I do have a hand me down desk and bookcase that are painted black, and I love them!! I think you'd be happy with your decision, and if not, you can always paint it again! :)

Love black and have used a little as an accent in a couple of the rooms in our house. I recently painted an antique metal bed a dark gray and yesterday put it in its place on one of the bedrooms. I was originally thinking white for the bedcovers but instead went for a black silk cover which is more practical than white and looks fab at the same time.

I have a black hutch in the dining room and I do love it. The only draw backs- dust shows up very quickly and if the inside is painted black, it can be hard to see what is displayed so I stick to white items (milkglass and sea shells).

YEAH! Gorgeous! Works well if you got enough room - I think black can be a bit dominent, but if the furniture want´s black, black it should be!
